FreeCreditReport.com is Anything But

Reminded of this via article linked through Instapundit...

Avoid FreeCreditReport.com at all costs. As the article linked to above states, all they're doing is providing a credit report that you're legally entitled to for free anyway, but in the process they sign you up for a "Credit Monitoring Service" for $14.95 a month. They begin billing your credit card about 7 days, unless you call and cancel before then. Disturbingly, the service is owned by Experian, one of the "big three" credit bureaus.

Needless to say, the name of the service and website, prominently featured in the company's widespread ads, is highly misleading. I fell into this trap, but after lodging a complaint with the Better Business Bureau I got my $14.95 back. Others have not been so lucky. Spread the word about this fraud and put them out of business.
