The Most Overrated Position in Sports

Interesting article from Jim Caple at ESPN, discussing the over-inflated importance of the closer in baseball. I agree with the majority of what he says, the gist is that a bullpen by committee is just as effective as a highly paid ninth inning specialist. He does grant that there are exceptions, but for most teams out there who can't afford or don't have one of those exceptions, they're better off putting the guy out there who makes the most sense given the situation, treating the ninth inning like they would any other inning.
